I know this same thought has been discussed before at the EGB forum. I can't speak for them all, but I think it would be a great idea to be able to hold the author as accountable as the reviewers for abusive content.

Not that I don't agree with your sentiment--I do--but there are mechanisms already in place that deal with such problems. Being an active portal defender is but one method. You CAN blam authors for their comments, even if the flash is decent. That's up to the Grounds Gold crowd who constantly stares down that Flash Portal day after day.

However, the Author's Comments are simply that: Author's Comments. If their comments are unbearable, either send a query to someone with administrative power, or simply don't watch the movie. Don't forget: each time someone uploads the flash, the number of views goes up by one. No need to dignify their stupidity or callousness with an audience, right?

I pay very little attention to what authors say about their submission, except games (instructions on controls). In fact, I've never personally beheld an instance of the "N" word. I HAVE, however, seen slurs against homosexuals... plenty of those. The thing is, I rarely if ever see such ignorance attached to a professionally made submission.

There is a good reason: most of those that actually did try to squeeze in the sleaze got canned from the site already, possibly on a permanent basis. Whoever did write something ignorant or utterly below the belt has already been taken care of. Say what you will about admin or mods. They're fair. Their word is taken seriously.

If such comments made it through the portal, they're still not permanent. Actually, you can update your comments to talk about bugs reported and fixed, or massive game updates, or a shout-out about getting Front Page. Actually, the power to self-edit should be exercised more: if a score of denizens (i.e. twenty) complains via one PM each to the author about the same comment, a clear-thinking author might self-edit the post, possibly exercising greater discretion in the future. Instead of exhibiting a 'zero tolerance' approach and kicking him out (leaving the intrinsic issue of anger to fester), confront the idiot head-on with a healthy dose of moral indignation.

You want to know what bugs me? Nobody bothers to self-edit a reply to a painful review. I remember one review's reply, laughing constantly after reading it aloud for all to hear. Of course, it can set someone off, even if it is fun to pick on someone's ignorance.

In any case, I do not sign the petition. I understand the spirit behind it, but an additional mechanism should not be necessary. Remember that Flash authors tend to be treated a little more courteously than normal and getting flagged by people who abuse the new mechanism... well, that might cause the authors to dodge, or just hesitate to submit new material at this site.

i sign. to many little immature people on the internet who cant control wha tthey say on other people work. they spend alot of time and work to try and give them something to enjoy but they give it a crappy score and rating with a crappy review because they think its funny.

Cuzz if it is, I'll sign it, seriously if you write such a dumbass comment then you might as well hang yourself because if your to stupid to give helpfull advice to the flashmaker then you should have died the minute you were born.
